Amazing beef noodle soup, and coconut cakes too 😍😍
Arrive early for best pick of food, we got there late and were lucky that the noodles were still going!
Cash only - they use a token system, so bring cash, and exchange for tokens at the entrance.
As a Thai person, I am so glad to have this temple in the area. The Sunday market is amazing. If you are ever looking for an authentic Thai food, you have to come here. Please come early (like 10 AM) since the food runs out very quickly and the lines can get very long.
Not only does this temple provides a community experience, they also provide normal religious services and education as well. The main monk here is so soothing and knowledgeable. Everything you might look for at a wat.
Cash only*
Great foods/deserts/vibes. Good luck finding a parking! It’s worth it!
Food: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5
Overall: Be prepared to wait in lines. The food does very in flavor from rich and flavorful to standard fare.
Food:
Beef Soup - 3/5 - The broth in this is very flavorful but the amount of meat and noodles is a little small in portion size. The pricing is fairly reasonable for this.
3 item plate - 3/5 - I got the pad thai, yellow curry, and pork belly. I would say the taste here was pretty standard fare. I would not say it's the best thai food I've had but it was decent.
Coconut Dessert - 3/5 - There are typically 3 flavors. I got regular and cinnamon. It was a crispy exterior and milky center, It's basically coconut milk.
Service: 4/5 - The servers are pretty friendly.
Ambiance: 3.5/5 - In the backyard of the temple, there's a bunch of folding tables. Be prepared to cozy up next to some people.
I really enjoyed the dining experience at Thai Temple. I went to school in Berkeley, but never had the opportunity to come here. I imagine you'd come here for the affordable and tasty Thai foods, but stay for the ambience and community vibes.
The payment process is unique. You purchase tokens that are refundable if unused, and then you trade tokens for food items, which are all recommendations because it is run as a non-profit organization for all. You can get a rice plate for $9+ depending on what you plate, including everything from tofu curry, eggplant & green beans. You can also get mango sticky rice dessert, fried chicken, or stand in the massive line for beef noodle soup. A great value overall and excited to come back.
This says it opens at 10:00 a.m. but I got there exactly at 10:00 and the lines were already formed and people had their food and we're sitting down eating so I'm not sure what time it actually opens.
There was a lot of seating. It was just completely in the Sun. I got there as it opened and I still waited about 20 minutes in line for the beefsoup.
I tag teamed it per other reviews one person got the tokens the other person stood in line. Honestly it wasn't amazing. I won't be going back but it was a nice change of pace.
Food wasn't good enough to wait in line and with no shade it was a lot.
tasty authentic thai food, got three dishes over rice (parang curry, yellow curry, pad thai), thai iced tea, and mango sticky rice + curry puffs to go. the curries are great, especially the panang, the pad thai is good but not great
other dishes: they don’t have other thai noodles like pad kee mao. they also had some other stir fried dishes (with rice), fried chicken with rice, papaya salad, and beef noodle soup
Wat Mongkolratanaram
After all these years, probably more than 10 years of coming here to the Wat Mongkolratabram, it's still a fun way to have Sunday Brunch with Thai food at a Thai Temple.
Today's food was Pad-Thai and curry had a lot of flavors. The soup lady gave me extra noodles in the boat noodle soup, the soup was delicious as always. They open at 10 am, so I advise you guys to come before 10:30 am so you can get a table.
As of 2022, mango and rice $10, beef boat pho $11, food $11.. other desserts ??
Ps. Cash only, if you don't have cash bring a friend who does..
